SYFY Rebrand
Role Design Director
As the Design Director, I had the privilege of overseeing the multi-million dollar rebrand of the SCI FI Channel to SYFY, spanning broadcast, digital, and print. My responsibilities encompassed everything from the initial renaming to developing a distinctive brand that would resonate with a wider audience, through to roll out across all platforms.
The rebranding process was a monumental undertaking, involving collaboration among internal teams and multiple vendors to create a new brand mark, bespoke typeface, brand film, idents, and navigation system for use across various platforms such as TV, web, social media, and print.
Our ultimate objective was to establish a brand that was distinct and memorable, rather than just another channel limited to a specific genre. We aimed to broaden our audience while also retaining our loyal fan base.
The brand film was a standout feature of the rebranding initiative, inviting viewers into a celebratory house party with rooms inspired by the Channel's original programs and characters. This film was designed to be modularly deconstructed into 10 and 5 second network idents, providing a cohesive brand experience across all platforms.
In addition to the brand film, we also created logo idents that showcased the new SYFY logo in a variety of visually captivating and dynamic ways.
The rebranding endeavor was a resounding triumph, establishing SYFY as a unique and recognizable brand in the entertainment industry. As the Design Director, I was able to leverage my passion for creative problem-solving and visually engaging storytelling to develop a brand that truly set itself apart.
