Case Study

ACTIVChill — In-Store Product Film

Reebok ActivChill Product Film

Role Creative Direction, Design, Animation Direction

The Client

Reebok developed ACTIVChill, a performance fabric engineered with a distinctive pentagon-shaped fiber designed to wick moisture away from the body while allowing air to circulate through the garment. To support the product launch in retail environments, Reebok needed an in-store film that could clearly explain how the technology works.

The Challenge

The technology behind ACTIVChill is microscopic and abstract, making it difficult to communicate in a retail environment where shoppers encounter the product quickly and without context. The film needed to translate complex textile engineering into an intuitive visual story, work without audio for in-store display, and maintain visual cohesion with the broader print campaign.

The Concept

The key insight came from the fabric itself: ACTIVChill fibers are built from a distinctive pentagon geometry. Rather than simply illustrating the material, the concept used this shape as the structural language of the film. Early development explored several visual directions inspired by pentagon structures found in nature and woven fiber formations, helping identify visual metaphors capable of communicating airflow and cooling.

The Approach

The final approach built a clear visual progression using the pentagon form. A single fiber appears and multiplies, assembling into woven fabric structures. Moisture rises through the material while airflow moves across the surface, demonstrating how the fabric cools and dries the wearer. The repeating pentagon geometry creates a graphic system that explains the technology while reinforcing the product identity.

The Film

The finished animation visualizes the invisible behavior of the material through motion and transformation: microscopic fiber structures, woven textile formations, moisture moving through the fabric, and airflow circulating across the skin. By focusing on visual rhythm and transformation, the film translates technical performance claims into a clear narrative that works without narration or text.

Outcome

The film became part of Reebok’s in-store product storytelling for the ACTIVChill launch, helping customers quickly understand the performance benefits of the fabric while maintaining visual alignment with the broader campaign.
