ID Brand Film

Role Designer + Art Director

Investigation Discovery needed a brand film establishing the network’s place as America’s #1 true crime network. The brand positions itself as the only TV network dedicated 100% to real-life mystery and crime that invites viewers to explore the good side, the dark side and the real side of human nature so that we can uncover the powerful true stories that matter.

The solution was to give viewers something they haven’t seen before: the strategy was all about ‘a new perspective” that literally “rips the roof off” the viewer’s expectations. During the creative research phase early 20th century crime scene photos where police photographers used large tripods to hang the camera far above the victim where used as inspiration.

Using an overhead perspective throughout the film along with continuous camera motion, a variety of crime tableaus are linked together to capture the spirit and programming range of Investigation Discovery. The three day shoot included two days in studio and two days of drone cinematography, yielding elements for 60, 30 and 15 second spots, a series of short narrative ‘idents’, and content that can be distributed on ID’s social platforms.
